MOOC

MOOC

The first MOOC of KEDIMA TOTT of the University of Crete on “University Education and Teaching Methodology in Higher Education” was completed in October 2023 and updated in October 2024. The new training course, lasting 8 weeks, remains available through the opencourses.uoc.gr platform and includes updated modules focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education.

University education with a student-centred and behavioural approach is a relatively new discipline that seeks to change the culture of higher education, combining learning theories such as constructivism and cognitivism and aligned with the principles of adult education. The ultimate aim of the programme is to provide structured opportunities for reflective learning and to support autonomous learning and development of faculty in HEIs.

The MOOC follows international standards, it is not just a repository of videos or texts. It includes reflective activities and forum discussions to create a community of learning and a sense of belonging. It also offers opportunities for peer-coaching, where lecturers share reflections and receive feedback from colleagues.

MOOCs are for instructors with a passion for creating flexible and synchronous learning environments that promote student understanding and autonomous learning. Teaching at the university is a practice, not a standardized process. University learning environments co-construct the context within which faculty members evolve and experiment with various teaching practices.

MOOC assessment is not limited to quizzes, but offers opportunities for reflection and alignment of teaching practice with international guidelines. Participants are invited to actively participate, with at least one contribution to the forum of each module, completing activities and asking questions in peer-coaching. The final report constitutes the remaining 50% of the assessment and leads to the award of a certificate of successful completion of the training course.

The MOOC provides participants with a comprehensive overview of the importance of “Teaching or Learning Digitally.” Through the community of practice, a sense of belonging and real-time interaction is enhanced with positive and constructive feedback, creating a strong sense of “trainer presence.” The University of Crete and the Centre for Teaching and Learning TOTT invite the KEDIMA coordinators to inform all teaching staff of Greek Universities.

The training course is provided free of charge and is available to all interested teaching staff of higher education institutions who speak Greek. Pre-registration on the opencourses.uoc.gr platform is required to join. The main modules included in the programme cover both course design and inclusive learning with the integration of AI.
