Constructively aligned assessment

Constructive alignment is a model that can be used to facilitate course planning. According to the model, teaching objectives, the implementation of teaching – content, material and teaching methods – as well as assessment are mutually aligned and jointly support high-quality, deep learning. The key is that teaching and assessment methods support the attainment of targeted learning outcomes. Assessment is especially critical from students’ perspective, because it is shown strongly to regulate learning. However, how can one design an assessment that supports students’ learning in the best way? This talk considers the connection of intended learning outcomes and assessment and what different assessment types can be used to measure the achievement of the learning outcomes. Examples of assessment methods, both for implementing in class or digitally are presented.
